- Mike Thompson, prayer, third heaven authority
News2morrow is not the originator of this teaching, but is merely presenting it for the benefit of our audience to glean important insights from the first eight episodes of Mike Thompson’s podcast series, Third Heaven Authority. It is hoped that our readers can benefit from this teaching and ascend into Third Heaven Authority for personal prevailing prayer. This same authority can be used in praying for America and the return of Donald Trump to office. For those who’d like to be apprised of future podcasts, please refer to Mike Thompson’s ministry page on Facebook HERE or his podcast page HERE.
Each of the episodes will begin with an audio recording of the podcast. Following that there is a review of what was just covered. Be sure to utilize both audio and text for an enduring study method. This is Part 2 of 4.
Chapter 2
Chapter 2: A View from Heaven
The Lord was preparing Mike Thompson for years to receive the understanding on Third Heaven Authority. Thompson recalls an incident when he was 19 years old, while just a newlywed with CK, when he was given the discerning of spirits and saw an angel at church. The angel appeared beside the pastor at the altar, whispering things in his ears to teach the congregation. Piece by piece, revelation by revelation the Lord was teaching Thompson for many years.
He recalls another incident involving a tormented boy who could not be restrained or controlled by parents or teachers. The parents sought spiritual help and Thompson went into prayer which turned into a trance. The Lord caught him into the spiritual realm and there he saw a snake. “Cut the head off of the snake,” the Lord commanded. Suddenly, a sword appeared in his hand and Thompson cut off the head of the snake. Realizing that the spiritual power behind the problem had just been severed, Thompson called for the family to the church that week. They prayed over the child and he was delivered.
These incidents were the building blocks for Thompson to understand Third Heaven Authority, which ultimately became a new dynamic for his life’s work.
NAVIGATING HEAVENLY & SPIRITUAL REALMS TO ARRIVE AT 3RD HEAVEN AUTHORITY
It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago–whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows–such a one was caught up to the Third Heaven. And I know such a man–whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows–how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter (2 Cor 12:1-4)
- First heaven: The stellar heavens, the physical universe, the physical creation;
- Second heaven: The spiritual atmosphere surrounding us, in which activities & operations of human spirits, angelic spirits & demonic spirits occur;
- Third Heaven: God’s heaven, God’s throne (i.e., Paul’s encounter when he was “caught up to the Third Heaven,” 2 Cor 12:1-4).
He who builds His layers in the sky, And has founded His strata in the earth; Who calls for the waters of the sea, And pours them out on the face of the earth—The LORD is His name (Amos 9:6)
In other words, the Lord has created within His creation layers, strata, palaces in the sky. From the earth up, there are layers leading up to the Third Heaven.
Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the LORD your God, also the earth with all that is in it (Deut 10:14)
He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things (Eph 4:10)
Remember Jesus’s words, “Third Heaven Authority is about perspective. Learn to use your spiritual eyes to view things from heaven’s point of view, not earth’s point of view. Only the Holy Spirit can give you the kind of perspective that you need in accomplishing this.”
Thompson wondered about his past operations in the Spirit and why there’s a difference between Kingdom operations and Third Heaven Authority.
The Lord heard those thoughts and responded, “The Kingdom rule is inside of you, but the Kingdom throne is above you.”
He who comes from above (location) is above all (authority) (John 3:31)
Jesus’s disciples rejoiced over the power they had over the demonic world. Jesus said to them:
Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19)
It’s one thing to walk in authority on a linear level. It’s another thing to walk in authority from above. One of the characteristics of Third Heaven Authority is that it is heaven’s viewpoint. It’s heaven’s perspective down, not earth’s perspective out or around.
Linear means straight out or horizontally and ministers can accomplish much Kingdom work operating solely on a linear level.
But when the Lord made Thompson look down from the throne room, through the second heaven, to earth, he began to become aware of Third Heaven perspective.
'ABOVE ALL' MEANS LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
After that experience, many scriptures were opened up to a deeper level of understanding. It’s imperative that we understand the term above all. Researching the term above all we find:
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth (Ps 57:5)
As Christians, we’ve all been given a level of spiritual authority that is above all physical authority, that is even above, for instance, the physical linear levels of military rankings of private, captain, general, etc. Above all is a location, a perspective, a way of looking at things that enhances everything we do in the spirit and in our lives.
For You, LORD, are most high above all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods (Ps 97:9)
It’s not just authority, it’s position too.
He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all (John 3:31)
Meaning that Jesus is both above all in authority and above all in position/location. When Thompson was in the Third Heaven, the Lord told him to “launch your warfare from here” at the demons who were below in the Second Heaven.
… which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come (Eph 1:20-21)
Of course, He has more authority – He is God. But He is also above all them. He’s raised up to a high location, as well as a position of influence.
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Eph 3:20)
Yes, of course, above all here means in greater measure & power. But never forget that the Lord is operating above all from the Throne room, in all that we ask or think. It becomes a heavenly answer to the prayer.
one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all (Eph 4:6)
above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one (Eph 6:16)
Up till now, you might have thought above all in this scripture as meaning as top priority; but consider the power this scripture holds when you connect this scripture to Christ’s statements, “Launch your warfare from here!”
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection (Col 3:14)
Look at above all here as not just that it’s more important, but look at it from a heavenly perspective – above all walk in love.
But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment (James 5:12)
Learn to rise up, and from an above position, walk in these spiritual dynamics.
And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins” (1 Pet 4:8)
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God (Col 3:1)
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth (Col 3:2)
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning (James 1:17)
This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic… But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy (James 3:15, 17)
You don’t have to be taken up to heaven to have this kind of Third Heaven perspective. The Lord told Thompson that the Holy Spirit has the ability to place it within us, and to increasingly build that perspective in us.
So whenever you are called upon to pray for someone’s healing or deliverance, consider the perspective from where you’re operating. Don’t limit yourself in a linear level, but see yourself operating from above. Your ability to operate in faith and authority will be enhanced by the Holy Spirit when your perspective is from above.
HUMANS EXIST IN TWO DIFFERENT REALMS OF EXISTENCE
There are two different realms of existence: the spiritual and the physical. God’s spiritual kingdom is the parent of the physical. God is a spirit and those who worship Him, must worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). As the Amplified version reads:
God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality) (Joh 4:24 AMP)
A spiritual being created the physical universe.
By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible (Heb 11:3)
You see there are two different realms of existence, but the spiritual realm is the parent of the physical realm.
Mankind was created to operate in two different realms. This is what allows us, physical beings, to view things from above, a spiritual perspective. We are above, not beneath, the circumstances.
Our physical bodies were created from the earth but we are kept alive by our spiritual inner man within us.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being (Gen 2:7)
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Th 5:23)
Spirit = Gk: pneuma, immaterial, invisible, yet powerful human spirit that is inside of us; the spirit of man within us. When the Holy Spirit comes upon us it transforms the human spirit and continues to reside there for the maturing of the person to become more and more like Jesus. The spiritual man has contact with God and engages in spiritual activity.
Soul = Gk: psuchē, refers to the intellect, emotions, will, the seat of our personality, the mind. Psychology comes from this Greek word.
Body = Gk: sōma, the outer man, where we get the word somatic (relating to the body).
We are a Spirit, Soul & Body. We are a triune being, in the same way that the Godhead is a trinity.
Our spirit was created to operate in the spiritual realm. Our body was created to operate in the physical realm. These are the two different realms of existence.
The Soul is the bridge between these two realms of existence. The soul can operate in both spiritual knowledge from the Holy Spirit or in physical knowledge from the five physical senses (touching, smelling, hearing, seeing, tasting).
Yet, we have those “senses” in the spiritual realm too. Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Matt 11:15, among other scriptures). Jesus is talking about spiritual hearing. We can even taste the Lord and know He is good (Ps 34:8).
This is foundational knowledge for operating in Third Heaven Authority. We were created to operate in two realms: spiritual and physical. We are not just human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience. God is teaching us how to operate in both realms simultaneously.
There are also dimensions within each realm. In the physical realm we have time, space, matter. Those don’t exist in the spiritual realm, where everything has a spiritual dimension and dynamic. This is why we walk by faith, which is from the spiritual dimension, not by sight, which is a physical dimension.
Once we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are transformed to operate in the spiritual realm. We are a new creation in Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit lives in us, communicates in us, leads and guides us. We are a Third Heaven creation operating in Third Heaven revelation, functioning in Third Heaven Authority.
Chapter 3
Chapter 3: The 3rd Heaven Epistle
In 2010, Mike Thompson had an encounter with the Lord that forever changed his life. In that encounter, Thompson sensed a liberating feeling of love and acceptance by Jesus & a rejection of fleshly emotions of fear, doubt, etc. After the experience and when Thompson returned to earth, he’d have to battle the fleshly elements again. However, to combat that, Thompson would often recall that spiritual memory and be filled with strength and awe anew.
Train yourself to recall and relive past spiritual encounters with the Lord. By doing so, you will create an atmosphere within you, a spiritual memory, that the Holy Spirit can continue and routinely impregnate with His presence. Then, when we’re facing difficulties in life, we can pull upon that spiritual memory and restore ourselves to God’s divine order for our lives, rebuilding us in faith and boldness in our walk with the Lord.
In that Third Heaven experience, Thompson got a glimpse of who he was created to be. And, it’s not based upon performance. It’s all about God’s Grace, and Grace is the relational structure of heaven. His Grace is freely given to us. His unmerited favor and empowering presence allows us to be who we were created to be and to do what He has called us to do. Doing always follows being.
Thompson reviewed the words, concepts, and perspectives used during his Third Heaven experience and he concluded that, in all the books of the Bible, Paul’s book to the Ephesians comes closest to capturing what was imparted to him.
The first time Thompson ever heard the phrase Third Heaven Authority was when the Lord commissioned him to teach His people about Third Heaven Authority. Since Paul spoke about the Third Heaven in Ephesians, Thompson began his research in that book.
OT PARADISE = NT HEAVEN
Paul equates the New Testament Third Heaven to Old Testament paradise, using each as synonymous terms.
It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the Third Heaven. And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows—how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter (2 Cor 12:1-4)
When Jesus told the thief that he would be in paradise, He was talking about heaven.
And Jesus said to (the thief on the cross), “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43)
In other words, paradise was a Hebraism for the place where the righteous, standing in covenant with God, have gone. And that was one of the parts of hades. So when Jesus was raised from the dead, after having conquered death, he transferred paradise to heaven.
Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many (Matt 27:51-53)
For review, there are three heavens.
- First heaven: The stellar heavens, the physical universe, the physical creation;
- Second heaven: The spiritual atmosphere surrounding us, in which activities & operations of human spirits, angelic spirits & demonic spirits occur;
- Third Heaven: God’s heaven, God’s throne (i.e., Paul’s encounter when he was “caught up to the Third Heaven,” 2 Cor 12:1-4).
PAUL’S REVELATIONS OF OUR BEING IN HEAVENLY PLACES
Several of God’s servants have experienced heavenly encounters: Peter saw a sheet coming down from heaven (Acts 11:5); Stephen saw heaven open up before him (Acts 7:55); John was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day (Rev 1:10).
But Paul, in particular, used words and terminology about our identity in Christ that was truly unique. Thompson submits the concept, for review, that five years after Paul’s heavenly encounter, Jesus released Paul to share what he saw and heard by writing the book of Ephesians.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ (Eph 1:3)
and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places (remember heavenly places is synonymous with above all, Paul’s terminology of who we are in Christ) (Eph 1:19-20)
and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Eph 2:6)
to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places (referring to the angels in heaven) (Eph 3:10)
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (referring now to the demonic spirits) (Eph 6:12)
Thompson’s experiences in heaven were similar to Paul’s.
REREAD THE BOOK OF EPHESIANS
Paul’s main theme in the Book of Ephesians is our inheritance in Christ Jesus. There are a total of 36 in Him scriptures in this book: 15 in Chapter One, 11 in Chapter Two, 10 in Chapter Three.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ (Eph 1:3)
We are new creations in Christ operating in Third Heaven revelation, functioning and walking in Third Heaven Authority. Paul’s vantage point of revelation is always from above, not beneath. Ephesians is the only book written by Paul that does not address specific questions or problems in the church.
Ephesians is a lofty book, a Third Heaven Authority book, a “from Heaven down” book – all from Paul’s perspective of revelation from above. We have both positional authority from Christ and, also, locational authority from Christ.
Chapters one through three of Ephesians talk to us about who we are in Christ, our being, our creation, our birth. These themes are also what Thompson experienced when he was caught away into the Third Heaven.
Chapters four through six talk about the manifestation of that authority, for instance, how to operate in that authority in Christ – “Launch your warfare from here!” This theme, too, was experienced by Thompson in heaven.
We all can have Third Heaven Authority without having gone to the Third Heaven. That’s because the Holy Spirit can give that to us.
Read the book of Ephesians through once, twice, three times or more and ask the Lord to open up your mind to receive its revelations.
ELIJAH-LIKE WHIRLWIND VISIT
A few years ago, Thompson had an experience like Elijah had. His wife, C.K., was in the United Kingdom during that time and, during prayer, the Lord whisked Thompson away from his home. He traveled across the Continental United States, across the Atlantic Ocean till he arrived at the United Kingdom. He found himself over the very hotel that C.K. and Kathy, her ministry friend, were staying.
The Lord showed him that the enemy was setting a trap for them of spiritual witchcraft. From a heavenly position above the area, the Lord prompted Thompson to break that! He took authority over the chaos caused by the witchcraft and blessed it with peace.
The next day, upon sharing notes, the Thompsons found out that what he had seen and done was exactly what happened to them in the United Kingdom.
These spiritual encounters occur from above – but also our prayers need to be uttered from a perspective of being from above. Whatever the need, finances, promises, difficulties, etc, we can pray into them from an elevated position.
Many believers have come to Thompson to verify that their prayers now carry more authority to them because, since listening to these teachings, they appropriate the answers to the prayers from an above position. They are no longer praying linear prayers, but praying with authority from above, seated with Jesus Christ.
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth (Col 3:1-2)
